#167 In het huis

Als Octavio de deur van zijn apartement op de 15e etage opent stapt Tante Oma resoluut naar binnen. Ze zet haar tas op tafel en houdt zwijgend een briefje voor haar neus waar met grote letters op staat: ALLEEN LEZEN, NIKS ZEGGEN – we worden afgeluisterd, als ik de bron vind kunnen we praten.

Octavio gaat zitten op een stoel aan de tafel terwijl Tante Oma haar werk doet. Ze houdt een scanner in haar hand en houd de lampjes in de gaten. Daarnaast voelt ze met haar vrije hand onder de tafel, onder de stoelen en onder de bank. Vlak bij het raam naast de bank begint een rood lampje op de scanner te knipperen.

Voorzichtig schuift ze een gordijn opzij en kijkt langs de muren. Onder een richel van de vensterbank haalt ze een dun metalen staafje tevoorschijn met lichtgrijze kop. Ze kijkt er naar met een vergrootglas en draait aan het staafje. Dan controleert ze het apparaat met haar scanner. ‘Die geeft geen signaal meer, nu verder kijken.’

Octavio wil iets zeggen, maar Tante Oma gebaart hem nog even te zwijgen. ‘Dit is een bluetooth device, van Chinese makelij’. ‘Ik vraag me af waarom ze jou moeten hebben?’ ‘Enfin, niks is wat het lijkt Octavio, voor hetzelfde geld zit er een andere dienst achter die ons het idee willen geven dat zij het niet zijn, toch is dit vreemd.’

‘Heb je na de dood van Katerina de dierenarts de doodsoorzaak laten vaststellen?’ Octavio zegt: ‘nee, niet aan gedacht.’ ‘Hmmm,’ zucht Tante Oma, ‘vergif is iets voor de Russen, blijft trouwens vreemd dat Victoria verdwenen is. Octavio wants to say something, but Aunt Grandma motions him to be silent. “This is a bluetooth device, made in China. I wonder why they need you? Well, nothing is what it seems Octavio, for all we know there might be another service behind it that wants to give us the idea that it is not them, yet this is strange.”
