#181 Nest

Hoe je het ook bekijkt, het mag duidelijk zijn dat ik een sterke verbinding heb met ‘de kunsten’. Genetisch. Qua jeugdervaringen en vriendschappen. In het toegepaste en in het vrije werk. Zelfs relationeel. Dat alles toont zich ook in de leefomgeving die je voor jezelf creëert. De vogel keert terug op het nest.

Als ik kijk naar mijn voorbeelden, je moet nu eenmaal ergens beginnen, dan zie je dat focus zorgt voor een constante herkenning. Overal kwam ik in mijn jeugd kunst tegen, vaak vermomd als vakmanschap, of als pure magie. Het begint bij ouders en voorouders en dat trekt vanzelf gelijkgestemden aan. Professionals en collega’s.

Ik ben nooit erg trouw geweest aan één stijl of techniek. Het begon met tekenen, daarna volgden fotograferen, schilderen, schrijven, grafisch ontwerpen, collage en assemblage, decorontwerp, reclame, webdesign, videobloggen, bloggen en advies. Tegelijk herhaalt de geschiedenis zich. Een metier dat je beheerst is nooit ver weg.

Uiteindelijk heb ik een advies opgevolgd om op de kunstacademie te studeren. Het is waar dat je daarmee een vorm van naïviteit verliest. Je wordt je bewust van het feit dat je op de schouders van anderen staat en dat er zoiets als een geschiedenis van je vakgebied bestaat. Dat levert een indringend bewustzijn van kwaliteit op.

In zes alinea’s een overzicht van alles wat je hebt gedaan neerzetten gaat niet lukken. Dat geeft niks, want ik heb de tijd om rustig vorm te geven aan zo’n panorama. Dat is de grote vrijheid waar ik mij al enige tijd en binnenkort ook officieel, in bevind. Niets moet, alles mag. Je neemt je leven in de hand en kijkt.

Je komt er niet omheen dat het nest waar je uit voortgekomen bent zich met je meebeweegt door de jaren heen. Als ik kijk naar de inrichting van het apartement waar ik woon dan is ook dat de opbrengst van een worp die al jaren plaatsvindt. Creativiteit kent geen einde, en deze verzameling is de vrucht van veelzijdigheid.

Nest

Whichever way you look at it, it should be clear that I have a strong connection with ‘the arts’. Genetic. In terms of childhood experiences and friendships. In applied and free work. Even relational. All of this is also reflected in the living environment that you create for yourself. The bird returns to the nest.

When I look at my examples, you have to start somewhere, you see that focus ensures constant recognition. In my childhood I encountered art everywhere, often disguised as craftsmanship, or as pure magic. It starts with parents and ancestors and that naturally attracts like-minded people. Professionals and colleagues.

I have never been very faithful to one style or technique. It started with drawing, followed by photography, painting, writing, graphic design, collage and assemblage, set design, advertising, web design, video blogging, blogging and advice. At the same time, history repeats itself. A craft that you master is never far away.

In the end I followed an advice to study at the art academy. It is true that in doing so you lose a form of naivety. You become aware of the fact that you stand on the shoulders of others and that there is such a thing as a history of your field. This produces a penetrating awareness of quality.

An overview of everything you have done in six paragraphs is not going to work. That doesn’t matter, because I have the time to quietly shape such a panorama. That is the great freedom that I have been in for some time and will soon officially be. Nothing must, everything is allowed. You take your life in hand and look.

You can’t get around the fact that the nest you came from moves with you through the years. If I look at the interior of the apartment where I live, then that is also the proceeds of a litter that has been taking place for years. Creativity has no end, and this collection is the fruit of versatility.
